Singer/songwriter Sarah Solovay BK ’16 could perform at the Grammys! Solovay is currently a Top 10 finalist in the Hitlab Emerging Artist Competition, which gives “unsigned, up-and-coming artists or bands the chance to perform at the 4th Annual Social Media Rock Stars Summit (SMRSS), an official GRAMMY Week event.” We virtually sat down with her to get the inside scoop.

BB: Tell us about the Hitlab Emerging Artist Competition.
SS: Actually, my mom entered me in the contest without telling me. When I was chosen for the top 10, she called me and started with, “Please don’t be mad, but…” I started laughing, because I was really excited about it off the bat!

BB: That’s amazing. Tell us about your music–where does the inspiration come from?
SS: Most of it comes from relationships (and, 95% of the time, relationships gone wrong), but a lot of it also comes from things I want from life. I also steal inspiration from my friends’ problems. My friends make a lot of jokes about me writing songs about them, but the truth is it happens much more often than they realize. Oops!

BB: Do you have a favorite song?
SS: My favorite song is always the one I’ve written most recently. I get excited about each song when it’s new, and then I stop caring once a newer one comes along. My love is fleeting.

BB: Where can we vote for you?
SS: You can vote once a day at this link: http://contests.hitlab.com/index/vote/sarahsolovay/0/3119. Voting closes Sunday!

BB: Tell us something weird about you.
SS: I’m not so secretly obsessed with the Supreme Court.

Boy, is there a class for you this semester! Good luck and don’t forget us!
