Monday Music Wrap Up

As you can tell by their album art, Alt-J is what we would call a psychedelic band. (wikimedia commons)

The Upbeat

“Revolution” by Diplo

Diplo is an American DJ who originally became famous working with M.I.A., and then got truly big with his project, Major Lazor. Interestingly enough, Diplo is short for Diplodocus, one of the many dinosaurs he was obsessed with as a child. And if you haven’t already seen him in that Andy Milonakis short (“We are Farmers”), then you might not know that he holds the title as one of the only attractive DJs in the U.S. Now, Scroll down a bit. Press play. Get out of your seat. Doesn’t matter if you’re in the middle of Bass just dance. Now try to tell me you don’t want Diplo at Spring Fling (qualtrics survey is out, jus’ sayin’).

The Downbeat

“Like a Version” by Alt-J

Alt-J is probably my favorite band of all time right now. One of the only albums I’ve listened to top to bottom without tire for a few years- so if you haven’t downloaded An Awesome Wave, do it now (actually, or hop on that Spotify Premium (now!)). Their music cannot really be categorized by a single genre, but the best way to describe the English band would be slow rock with a mix of synthy and hip hop beats. Even the interludes are sweet. But since you’re in the process of downloading the album right now, thought I’d post one of their more out-there covers. The intro of the video speaks for itself: a mash-up of Dr. Dre and Kylie Minogue by a band of white British boys… pretty predictable!! (naht)
