Michael Blume, SY ’12+1, has been a major force in Yale’s music scene, singing with the Duke’s Men and the Whiffenpoofs and organizing last semester’s popular review Moments as his senior project. Preparing to launch a career as a singer/songwriter, Blume recorded over twenty-five live videos while still here at Yale in order to take advantage of “all the amazing resources (human and material!)” on campus. Today, Blume launched his YouTube channel, Michael Blume Music, with three live videos (the remaining 20+ will be released gradually in the coming months). The videos–gorgeously shot by cinematographer Jeffrey Star ’13 and featuring expert accompaniment from a variety of Yale musicians–include covers of John Legend’s “Ordinary People” and Frank Ocean’s “Thinking About You,” as well as “I Won’t Be That Guy,” a jazzy stand-out by Blume. Anchored by Blume’s inventive vocals and soulful sincerity, these smooth and vibrant tracks are just the thing to keep you going while cooped up inside on a snowy day.
