The NYTimes reports:

Fred R. Shapiro, an associate librarian, explained the latest acquisition: “A hundred years from now, if someone wants to study the bobbleheads, where will they go? There needs to be an archive.”

Hopefully they also acquire a Dwight Schrute bobblehead to round out this necessary collection.

Love might mean never having to say you're sorry, but that's no excuse for the New York Times to end an obituary with this qualifier: "None has appeared on The Times’s best-seller list."

In case you were interested, Segal’s books that did not make it to the Times’ best-seller list were:

“Greek Tragedy: Modern Essays in Criticism” (Harper & Row, 1983); “Oxford Readings in Aristophanes” (Oxford University, 1996); and “Oxford Readings in Menander, Plautus, and Terence” (Oxford University, 2001).

Segal was a Classics Professor at Yale from the 1960s through the 1980s; more fascinating, the main character was based on both Tommy Lee Jones and Al Gore, who Segal knew from his days at Harvard.

Segal was 72. Read the full Times’ Obit here.

Rihanna and Justin Chambers sign on to help.

Seun Adebiyi (LAW ’09) was training to be the first Nigerian to compete in the Winter Olympics in skeleton (or any other sport) when he was diagnosed with stem cell leukemia and lymphoblastic lymphoma. He’s still looking for a bone marrow match, but hopefully all the press he’s been receiving will help him find one.

Reputable publications like the NYTimes and the YDN have already covered the story; more interestingly, OK! Magazine (check out their equally worthwhile coverage on Heidi Montag’s hopes for size H breasts) just picked up on it. Why? Singer Rihanna and actor Justin Chambers (“Massimo” in the Wedding Planner; perhaps better known as Dr. Karev on Grey’s Anatomy) are showing their support for Adebiyi. Watch Chambers’ PSA here; learn about registering to be tested as a match here.

Are upperclasswomen on the prowl?

The NYTimes’ article from yesterday explored the older woman-younger man relationship — the “cougar” phenomenon. Granted, their definitions of cougar — women 35 years or older dating men five to ten years younger — have nothing at all to do with any Yale relationships I know of, unless some male commenter wants to speak up about hooking up with a TF or a professor. The age range of the Yale dating pool is pretty limited: 17-22 for undergraduates, with grad students seeming to range mostly from 22-30. So what’s a junior or senior girl to do?

By the time you get to the ripe old age of 20, you might feel like you (or your friends) have hooked up with every straight male at Yale. You can obviously try to go the grad student route and stalk GPSCY looking for your TF from last semester, but sooner or later you might start thinking about going younger. If you’re an upperclasswoman, are freshman boys game as soon as they hit campus? Or do you let them age for at least a semester? I’m personally a little creeped out by the idea of ever entering a dorm room on Old Campus again, let alone a bedroom, but there are definitely ways around that. Bullblogirls, share your thoughts in the comments below.
