Adi Kamdar tells England about Gmail taking over Yalemail

By 20 February 2010 One Comment

When we first heard about Gmail taking over Yalemail we had many concerns; will we all get gchat accounts, gcals and google readers?  Will students take to Google Buzz?  Does this mean Google operates my whole life now?

Apparently real people have real concerns about the great Gmail heist of 2010.  Adi Kamdar ’12, of Yale students for free culture, recently voiced some of these concerns to all of England recently on BBC radio.  In the talk Adi explains that if Gmail takes over “we wouldn’t be hosting our own emails anymore.  Instead of us hosting it, we’d be hosting our emails off campus and we’d be trusting in a third party, namely Google, and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing and there are a lot of issues that are brought up with this.  Privacy issues, security issues.”   Well, I don’t really understand what that “privacy” and “security” are, but I do know I love gchat.
