Bullblog tip-off: English Building Market
Truth: this antique store has a nonsensical name. Truth: its neighbors are all wig stores and Foot Lockers. But the biggest truth of all? English Building Market is the best store in New Haven no one goes to. I had passed this gem many a time on my way to the farmer’s market, never really thinking twice. The storefront is a little shabby, and its location didn’t necessarily bode well for the quality of its wares. But yesterday, I was in the area for a trip to Bullblog fave Fashionista, and I decided to take the plunge and check it out. It housed, rather than the tawdry nick-nacks I expected, a cool assortment of armchairs, mirrors, and old German books on renaissance painters. All for not too high a price! I got a Persian rug, WASPily worn down, for just $40! It may not be Salvation Army prices, but at least the money isn’t going to a good cause.<—Previous                                                                                              Next—>
