Though New Haven often takes advantages of “special events” such as “First Thursdays” (this Thursday!) to promote deals or discounts that are actually available all the time, in this case, I’m glad they did. It’s safe to say every bar in New Haven has a happy hour, so I don’t know why I never thought to inquire about one at Pacifico. Turns out it’s worth asking about — from 6:30-9:30 Monday thru Friday, they offer $5 mojitos and margaritas, half-price beer, and “COMPLIMENTARY TAPAS.”

These are not Viva’s margaritas we’re talking about — they’re the real thing. And they’re good. I’m sure it goes without saying that the food is pretty damn good, too. Use your last midterm or your last day of classes as an excuse to go see what they’re giving away. You won’t be embarassed to take inappropriate amounts of free food when you’re tequila-drunk — so try to take enough tapas samples to make a meal. If you’re still hungry at 9:30, you can always stop by Ay Salsa on your way out.
