Disaster! Keys to the City is leaving downtown New Haven!

The New Haven Register is now reporting that everyone’s favorite bar on the Green (OK, I guess there are probably people who prefer Richter’s, but the idea of yard-long glasses of beer creeps me out) is moving out of Downtown New Haven and into a bigger space in the Long Wharf neighborhood when its lease runs out in the Spring. Their article emphasized the positive aspects of the story, but neglected the obvious—this means Yalies will no longer be able to walk over to Temple St to experience the thrill that is dueling pianos (“the ONLY dueling piano bar in CT”)! This is a catastrophe—I strongly urge all Yalies who have not yet been to make sure to visit this weekend. It is not to be missed. The only Yalies who win from this tragic relocation are those with a car—the new venue will have valet parking, so you’ll be able to wear your highest heels and still make it inside!

  • The real question: is the new venue close enough for Yale Security pick ups? The Bullblog and MADD officially condemn drinking and driving.
