“Don’t click reply all” now the rally cry of all Yalies

By 15 January 2011 One Comment

It all started when the crew of the upcoming play Seat Yourself sent an email inviting people to audition for their show to 37 Yale panlists… which were visible to every recipient of the email, because they forgot to “BCC”. Out of the mostly impossible to read email jumped these words:

tickle your funny bone, pull at your heart strings, and f@#k with your mind. It’s a jolly romp through what it means to be human.

If only they could have predicted what was about to come next. After what must have been a bombardment of “MESSAGE DELIVERY FAILURE” emails to the “Seat Yourself” team, people started to send emails asking to be removed from the “panlist”. This quickly spun out of control, from people using the email to rant about how Yale panlists shouldn’t accept emails from unknown senders, to meme pictures, to Rick Astley videos. Then one guy mentioned he had lost his laptop, someone said he may have found it, someone asked if people want to hang out tonight, someone asked where everyone is from, a girl said she lost a contact in a snowman and a needle in a haystack and no one said they found it and another person said he lost his dignity. Finally someone summed it all up: “This email chain is gonna be the “it” social scene of 2011 I can feel it.”

  • a herald arts and entertainment editor made that prediction, naturally.
