Drink of the week: Halloween edition

By 30 October 2009 One Comment

There are so many directions to go here. And I want to go in all of them. There are, mercifully, many nights of Halloween at Yale, so you can choose a different drink every night. Enjoy!

ORANGE & BLACK

For the holiday, that is, not for Princeton. I am a big fan of layered drinks—the taste may suffer a bit, but it’s all in the name of aesthetic.

Black layer: Blend together 1 pt whiskey and 1 pt chocolate liqueur with plenty of ice, then pour it into a medium CLEAR glass.

Orange layer: Mix 1 part mango juice and 1 part rum with 4 parts whipped cream, taking care not to ruin the whip. Pour a few dollops on top of the black layer.

BLOOD

Shake 1 part Campari with 3 parts gin and a couple dashes grenadine. Serve straight up in a CLEAR glass.

SCARY ZOMBIE BRAINS OR EYEBALLS OR SOMETHING

Make an alcoholic cherry jello following the jello instructions, except substituting vodka for half the water. Pour into a cookie sheet and let cool. When set, cut into small cubes. Distribute a few cubes into each of the glasses you are serving to guests. They should be CLEAR.

Shake together 5 parts vodka, 2 parts Bailey’s, and 3 parts cream (a White Russian), then pour this over the cubes with a bit of ice. Scary!!!
