For your consideration: Amerie

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I love taking surveys. I like the idea that there is some decision being made on which my iphone-typed responses has purchase. So I OBVIOUSLY filled out the Spring Fling survey as soon as I woke up, still in bed. But I was upset, angry, and sad to see that missing from all of the lists of potential acts was Amerie—who is easily one of the ten best Hip-Hop/R&B songstresses of the last decade. No, she’s not Beyonce. She’s not even Rihanna. But her racially ambiguous look and beat-heavy sound have exactly the type of wide-ranging appeal the committee is looking for. And even if she doesn’t have huge name recognition any more, she has two songs to silence all critics—Take Control, and the inestimable 1 Thing.
