The case for a snow day tomorrow

By 9 February 2010 4 Comments

Thanks to @thomaskaplan’s twitter, I know that Yale pretty much never calls a snow day. But President Levin, you don’t have to live in the past! You can turn this institution around and cancel classes tomorrow—here’s why:

1. The current winter storm warning for “Southern New Haven” says “TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 10 TO 16 INCHES ARE EXPECTED.” That is so much snow. That might pass the rim of my shearling-lined bean boots!

2. Other schools are doing it—namely, Penn! And the Teacher’s College at Columbia! Most other schools don’t have blogs that update all that much so its possible there are more colleges where classes will be cancelled tomorrow… we could set the trend.

3. I really just want to sled down the hill behind the Div School. Doing so is recommended by the College Insiders Guide to Yale. True, I could probably do so even if we have class tomorrow (I have a long lunch break) but I would feel guilty.

Ricky Lev, these are three very solid reasons: height, peer pressure and guilt. If you call it, the Bullblog may just make you Crush of the Week.

  • I fully endorse this.

  • Also, what is the etiquette for self-declared snow days? Are those allowed?

  • @TK, it’s like walking in late to class carrying a starbucks cup—the teacher just has to acknowledge the validity of that excuse.

  • ALSO, @alastairminnis, @jessicabrantley and @jessicapressman, if any of you are reading this, IT’S JUST A JOKE I WOULDN’T MISS YOUR CLASS FOR THE WORLD!
