Tufts inspires a whole new wave of Aleksey Vayners

WHY, TUFTS WHY?  Or should I say thank you???  Some complete genius in the admissions office at Tufts was bored out of their mind reading admissions essays and had the amazing idea to give students the option of submitting their essay in one-minute-video format. Said admissions officer is also indisputably cruel.

The Option Essay (6b) stipulates that the videos be uploaded to YouTube, meaning anyone in the world can see them—including other Tufts applicants… and the Bullblog. A little teeny piece of me feels bad about making fun of these videos, but they’re just too good!   I wonder how many of these kids will end up getting in—and what will happen now that people can search each others’ vids. Will it be like those people who put their admissions essays up in message threads on admits.yale.edu?

You kind of can’t go wrong here, but you should check out this girl doing “math dances” (just wait for box and whisker).  And “Duckie” showing off her bracelets.  And this girl’s “I <3 Tufts” whiteboard.  Or this guy’s slideshow?  And check out “what makes me me!” for this girl—(as far as we can tell: friends, family, Israel, lap dogs, Ellen Degeneres, Italy, Heart of Darkness, and candy).  Or this guy whose “not afraid of trying new things”—like playing the snare drum and speaking in a completely monotone voice.
