Clue 46-down in this Sunday’s New York Times crossword: “Lux et Veritas” collegian.
Although many experienced NYT solvers might immediately assume the answer to be eli, which shows up quite a bit, the length of the clue, and the fact the it intersects with the end of psychedelicacy (it’s one of those weird pun-heavy puzzles), indicates that the answer is in fact Yalie.
I appreciate that the clue is more specific than the typical Ivy Leaguer, and that *crimson is absolutely never needed to fill in space on a crossword grid. Thanks for being there, Will Shortz.
P.S. If you’re reading this, Will, sorry I haven’t sent in any answer submissions to The Puzzlemaster Presents since August. Nobody listens to NPR here.
