Yale’s Ralph Laurenic Future
Fashion icon Ralph Lauren has established a new professorship at Yale in honor of Charles Gwathmey, M. Arch ’62. This, of course is wonderful news for Yale because it means that we will be establishing a connection with a fashion giant which will hopefully reap many stylish benefits. We can’t speculate as of yet, but here are my guesses on what Lauren will do to make Yale more stylish:
1. More stylish visiting professors
Alexander Wang, Garance Doré, Oscar de la Renta, Tavi Williams, Anna Wintour, and Karl Lagerfeld would be some good choices.
2. Abolition of all Yale sweats, sweatshirts, and t-shirts.
It’s unfortunate that people decide to wear sweats to class, but it’s an unfortunate truth that we are going to have to get over. They don’t, however, have to associate themselves with Yale by wearing dumpy clothes with our school insignia.
3. Opening of fashionable stores in New Haven
“But we have American Apparel and Urban Outfitters!”
4. Hiring of style advisers for University officials
I can’t think of anything Rick Levin and Linda Lorimer need more than a personal shopper/ fashionista during the recession.
